ARMADA SELECTION
I believe Vanitas would fit Corsairs best since he'll do whatever it takes to get what he desires when he desires it. He's not beyond using tricks or underhanded tactics either. He wouldn't want to really bother with rule following of the Paladins and find them annoying. Even with Corsair he can work with as long as his goals align for the time being.

CHARACTER INFO
Character: Vanitas
Canon: Post his defeat to Ventus + Sora in KH3
Age: Appears 16/17
Background Information: [ x ]
Personality:
Vanitas' first memories are of being given a name by Xehanort and looking down a broken boy laying by his feet. An empty shell of the person he once was.
Vanitas is the other half to Ventus’ light having been forcibly separated from him. He’s a being made up of pure darkness without the slightest hint of light. Much like how Vanitas and Ventus are two sides of the same coin, there are two main sides to Vanitas’s personality. One he displays openly and another that is deeply rooted and masked away from others.
❶Vanitas overall is cold, calculating and manipulative. He only ever finds amusement in beating others down and watching them squirm. He doesnt shows signs of remorse for anything he does. If he desires something, he’ll take it. It doesn’t matter who or what stands in his way. He will cut them down so long as there something for him to gain for it. It doesn’t need to be a huge gain either, even something as small as making them shut up or making an example out of them for others to heed.
While dangerous, he doesn’t always strike out physically. He knows how twist words with the venomous intent of tearing someone down or making them others doubt in themselves or just provoke a rise out of them. He eat up those reactions. Being made up of negativity he practically feeds off it from others.
He’s blunt and will mock anyone for valuing friendship or putting themselves in danger for others. Vanitas isn’t the self-sacrificing kind of being. He doesn’t understand it coming from a very selfish mindset of looking out for just himself and his own interest. Years of training under Xehanort have taught him to rely on the darkness in his heart and his own power. He’s good at hiding his inner thoughts as he pulsates negativity. He never likes to give away much information. Just a hint there, a tantalizing piece of information there. He'll hold out whatever bits of information he can get their attention and make them curious. It’s much like when he taunts Ventus about Terra changing. He never explains how Terra will change, just saying he will and that Ventus will be left behind while it happens.
❷The thing is, Vanitas’ willpower and desire are nearly unmatched. He’s overly confident in himself and sees others below him. Even if he receives multiple defeats, he still stands tall and keeps going or even laughs. Oddly enough, he does know when to cut his losses for a fight. It doesn’t dampen his ego at all and though he’ll admit when someone else wins, a small battle is hardly anything in the grander scheme of things.
He’s incredibly resilient and stubborn. It’s near impossible to change his mind when it’s set or when he has a goal. It consumes him and he can become dangerously focused on it. No matter how impossible or drawn out it may be.
❸This also means he can become impulsive when he starts to grow frustrated or bored when things don't go how he wants. While he seems loyal to Xehanort, it's clear he will disobey the man when it suits him. It’s with one of his first fights with Ventus that he decides to try and end the other's life despite knowing Ventus was a key part of their plan.
This is the other side of him that is usually kept tight. He likes to think he's way more in control of himself than he actually is. He also holds so much hate for the worlds and people around him. Particularly Ventus is the target for this. He is repulsed by his light more and more and questioning why things are the way they are. When he sees Ventus as weak and it makes him see that as a weakness in himself. It’s something that must be destroyed or forced to grow stronger.
On the note of Ventus, Vanitas can feel emotions from Ventus through the connection of their hearts (noted in Xehanort's Report and more in novel). Back when he was first training under Xehanort he felt Ventus' loneliness and his happiness at forming friendships with Terra and Aqua. This made him jealous and further detested Ventus, thinking him undeserving of a happy life.
Vanitas is very selfish, ruthless and obsessive being. If he considers something as his no one else deserves it. He will strive constantly until achieving the results he wants. He’ll do anything to win. It doesn’t matter if it takes cheating, sneak attacks or lying. He isn’t a boy scout and anyone assuming there will ever be a fair fight with him needs to get their head checked or will get a nasty surprise. Fairness and honor are just weaknesses he can take advantage of. When he sets his eyes on something, he’s in it to win no matter the cost. Much like with viewing the X-blade as rightfully being his purpose along with merging with Ventus. He doesn't just want the X-blade. He needs it. It’s his destiny and his salvation that no one will stop him from achieving. The only way he is stopped is when Ventus destroys him at the cost of his own heart. It’s then a defeated Vanitas still struggles and desperately reaches out for the X-blade, his salvation and density, in vain.
He does return despite his apparent death. His personality hasn't changed too much other than seeming a bit more in control of himself. One of the main things that has changed in his desires is that he seems to of lost hope or interest in forging the x-blade with Ventus. In BBS, forging the x-blade was Vanitas major driving force. In Kh3 that doesn't seem to be the case. Its hard to tell if Xehnanort explained that it wasn't possible or his last defeat to Ventus was proof enough of that.
The x-blade doesn't really seem to be of interest to Vanitas anymore, there is still a heavy desire to be one with his light as he is still after Ventus' heart through out and even tries to take him from Sora. In the grand scheme of things, given that they need seven guardians of light, taking Ventus' heart at that point doesn't really fall in line with Xehanort's plans. This shows Vanitas still has his own goals. Ventus is still a target.
But with his defeat, Vanitas seems calmer and much more accepting of it than his last defeat at the hands of Ventus. He doesn't struggle at all. Despite Sora and Ventus both reaching out to him, he chooses his fate and chooses darkness because that's what he is. Vanitas admits there's a bond between Ventus, himself and Sora and explains that he's the shadow that their light casts so how much closer could he be? He doesn't turn down the offer as much as he decides to take his own path and see it through as darkness. He's already on their side, in his own way.
Ventus and Vanitas also seem to reach a bit more of an understanding of each other, accepting what the other is.
Abilities & Inventory: [x]
Link for just the generalness of his abilities/magic.
Noting more concerning powers here for mod ease of read:
- Can create corridors of darkness to travel through. Basically portal like pathways to move from two different locations. Obviously would be limited to the game setting and not off world.
- Unversed spawn from him. (Similar to heartless in the KH series but spawn only from Vanitas). They are semi-sentient fledglings of Vanitas’ emotions and negativity. They attack and act according to Vanitas’ will. When they are destroyed they do cause him pain but they flow back into Vanitas and are absorbed into his being.
Inventory:
- Bodysuit made of his own darkness + Cracked helmet
- Organization XIII outfit
- Void Gear
